Thangka Painting

Buddhism is one of three major religions in the world. Since its
introduction into china, it produced far-reaching influence on China's
philosophy, ethics, literature, art and music. However, it's said that
Thangka, the essential part of Tibetan's painting art, had already
been created there long before Buddhism's entering into Tibetan, which
was in the 7th century on the Tubo Dynasty. The earliest existing
Tangka now is a painting around 11th century. Meanwhile, the world
still keeps a small amount of works dating back to 12th to 15th
century. And works from 17th or 18th century actually account for the
major part. In view of Tibetan's large area, different sects and
teachings, the art of Thangka diversified in its styles. And its
development is closely related to the art of Buddhism of the central
plains and its surrounding areas, such as the central Asia, India,
Kashmir and Nepal.
Painting and embroidery are considered as Thangka's two main
categories according to its texture. The former one is its principal
part while the latter is the work of great value. The Palace painting
of Thangka is rich in content and a wide range of Tibetan Buddhism
images is included. And it has two sources, one of which comes from
the tributes made by the Tibetan artists; the other is painted by
Buddha Lamas and painters from palace of the Qing Dynasty, and
specialized style is formed in handling of constructs, colors and
figures' background, representing Tibetan art's development of Thangka
in 18th in inland.

Sports star

To be frank, I’m not quiet interested in the stories about sports stars, and I’m not an expert in the sport field either. Because it always takes time and energy to follow those sports stars’ news everyday. But that does not mean I don’t like sports stars. In fact, I do respect all those sports stars that show great games for the audiences. Their excellent skills tell people that we human beings have some kinds of abilities that are different from all other species and that we could reach a new and high level if only we could put our heart and soul into practice. And that’s why I believe we have the slogan of Faster, Higher, and Stronger in the Olympic Games. And most sports stars, as I understand, tend to have a hard life when they were young. However, they made great efforts in sports practice and finally made their dreams a reality and they are really a kind of encouragement as well as good examples for young people around the world.

My Idol

Like most young students, I have got my own idols too. And I’m particularly interested in successful business people, like Jack Ma, the CEO of the Alibaba Group. He was born into an ordinary family in Hangzhou in 1964 and, he graduated from a college with a bachelor degree. Jack Ma founded Alibaba after his first visit to America when computers and the internet were hardly known among ordinary people in China and later Alibaba turned out to be quiet successful in E-business and, it now has become one of the largest B2B websites around the world. At the same time, Alibaba’s success has won Jack Ma opportunities to give speeches in the world famous universities, such as the Harvard University. Jack majored in English and he used to be an English teacher, so there is obviously no problem in his communication with his foreign friends. And sometimes I do think he is a good example for students like me who always complain there is no way out for English majors, you know my major is English too, teachers might be business men some day and all we have to do is to get ourselves prepared.

My friend

FengJieyu is one of my best friends and Jack is his English name. He is now 22 years old and is currently studying in Zhejiang University of Technology. Jack is as tall as me and he has big eyes and dark hair. By the way, he has also got a very warm smile on his face and that’s why I knew we could be good friends the moment I saw him at the school gate and, that was the first time we met each other. Jack is a really smart guy. He is good at mathematics and it was he who taught me how to play Chinese chess. But I have never won him once and sometimes, you know, I do think he played some tricks in our games. We used to play ping-pong together and Jack never complained when he lost a game. I really enjoy spending time with him. He has a refreshing personality that combines even-temperedness with enthusiasm and energy. I’m so lucky that I have got such a nice friend.
